In honor of Lake, I have my own little poem done in her style that will tell you what I thought about this book ;)

awe-inspiring, fantastic, moving, incredible, ace,
awe-inspiring, fantastic, moving, incredible, ace,
extraordinary, breathtaking, heart-stirring,
astonishing, terrific, phenomenal, magnificent, stunning,
sigh-inducing, impressive, eye-opening, stupendous, mind-blowing,
marvelous, boss, beautiful, wonderful, incredible, spectacular.
And my personal favorite- special.
There have been a few authors lately who have rewritten books from a
different character’s POV (usually the male’s POV) and I have read a few
lately. I’m always excited to get my hands on these books, but something always
leaves me wanting more. There have been a few that I’ve read that really just
feel like the same story (Yes, I realize that, technically, it is) with a few
pronouns switched around. And they definitely didn’t live up to my
expectations. Those authors need to learn a thing or two from Mrs. Hoover,
because THIS is how you retell a story from a different perspective and make
it NEW and FRESH. At no point was I bored with this story (I’m not sure that
would be possible at all with the Slammed Series anyway). At no point did
anything feel redundant. At no point did I feel the need to skim past parts
because “I already know what happens here.” In a lot of ways, this felt like an entirely
new story to me and I devoured it just as much, if not more than the other two
books in this series. The way it was written was absolutely perfect. The idea
to write it as if Will is reminiscing about the past and telling Lake a story
was genius. By doing this, Colleen was able to give us both the past and
present in this book, and the transition between the two was flawless. I didn’t
realize until the end how much I missed the other characters, especially
Kiersten, and would have loved for them to have a bigger role in the book, BUT
I’m not complaining at all. The book is completely amazing and perfect as it
is.
Julia, Julia, Julia. She kills me.
Every.
Single.
Time.
Julia makes me cry ugly tears. She did it in Slammed. She did it probably even more in Point of Retreat. And I foolishly thought that she was done. She couldn’t do any more damage, because after those letters, and the stars, I could handle anything, right? I was wrong. Julia turned me into a blubbering fool this time around as well and I. Love. Her. Besides Will and Lake, she is probably the most important character in this series and it would have been nothing without her. Through Will’s eyes, we got to see a more vulnerable side to her and it was just as heartbreaking as before and so beautiful.
I was extremely happy about the fact that we got a few new poems this time around. They were amazing, as always. Especially This Girl. This series would not be the same AT ALL without the poetry. It truly does add so much to this series. Thank you Colleen for not listening to that ridiculous suggestion that you remove the poetry from your books.
Here’s the point where I bring out my fangirl for the one and only Will Cooper. I cannot get enough of Will. He is incredible. He is perfect. He is my ultimate book boyfriend. I love him like nothing else. Of course when I first heard about THIS GIRL and it being in Mr. Cooper’s POV, I was excited. Colleen and Will completely exceeded my expectations with this book and blew me away. I have just about the entire book highlighted on my Kindle because every single word or thought from him either made me sigh, laugh, or cry. As much as I adore Slammed and Point of Retreat, seeing things through Will’s eyes in this book added an entirely different layer of wonderful to this series. The Lake, a poem that will writes for Lake in Slammed, is a favorite of mine and in THIS GIRL, that poem was given new meaning for me. I didn’t think this series could get any better. I stand corrected. Colleen took amazing and kicked it up about five notches with this book.
I am so very sad to be saying goodbye to this series and the characters that I have come to love. They will always hold a very special place in my heart as their story has become my absolute favorite. As much as I wish this series could continue forever, Colleen has ended it perfectly and beautifully. As for Colleen Hoover—she is a genius and such an incredible author. I have loved everything she has written and will continue to buy her books until the day she decides to stop writing. Obviously I recommend this book and the entire Slammed series! All three books are butterflying incredible!

Oh. My. God. That is the hottest damn southern impression I've ever heard. And that smile. And that nervous laughter. Everything she does pierces my heart. It's all I can do to stop myself from grabbing her face and kissing the hell out of her right here and now. Looking down at her, watching her laugh... God, I've never wanted to kiss a girl so bad in my entire life.
